Today, October 1st, we join the global recognition of the International Day of Older Persons. More than a commemoration, this day is an invitation: to acknowledge the invaluable role seniors play in our communities and to strengthen the ties that connect different generations.

At InterGenic project we believe intergenerational cooperation is not just beneficial – it is essential. Seniors bring experience, wisdom, and resilience; younger generations bring innovation, energy, and fresh perspectives. Together, they can create stronger, more inclusive societies.

Through our project, we have developed interactive modules designed to encourage dialogue, cooperation, and mutual learning between age groups. These resources are freely available on our website and can be used by educators, community leaders, and families who want to foster meaningful connections across generations.

The European Union is also strongly committed to promoting solidarity between generations. It has introduced several initiatives to address the challenges and opportunities of ageing populations. For example, the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations placed a strong focus on enabling older people to stay active in the labour market, participate fully in society, and live independently for longer. Programmes under Erasmus+ regularly fund projects that bring together young and older people to share skills, experiences, and cultural knowledge, helping to reduce social isolation and build stronger community bonds. Additionally, EU research and innovation programmes support studies and pilot projects on healthy ageing, digital inclusion for seniors, and new models of care.

On this International Day of Older Persons, we invite you to explore our modules and discover new ways to connect. Let’s celebrate not only the contribution of seniors but also the power of collaboration between young and old.
