The InterGenic Project itself is dedicated to promoting intergenerational learning experiences, aiming to bridge the digital and green divides between different age groups. By fostering collaboration between younger and older generations, InterGenic strives to ensure that the benefits of the digital revolution and the green transition are shared across society, building resilience and adaptability for the future. This approach aligns with the goals of European Programs, which seeks to address societal challenges through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions.
The inclusion of the InterGenic Project in the conference demonstrates the ongoing importance of intergenerational learning in the context of Europe’s digital and green transitions. Dr. Afxentiou’s insights highlight the crucial role that education—and the responsible use of emerging technologies—will play in shaping a more socially aware and cohesive European society.
As Europe continues its pursuit of innovation, sustainability, and social inclusion, the work of projects like InterGenic provides a vital roadmap for how new technologies can be used to promote shared learning and mutual understanding across generations, ensuring no one is left behind in the transition.
The I Conference on New Technologies and Education, held at Universitat Jaume I, provided a valuable opportunity to explore the intersection of innovation, technology, and education. Among the highlights of the event was the participation of Dr. Afxentis Afxentiou, Project Coordinator of the InterGenic Project at the University of Limassol, who gave a thought-provoking talk titled «Harnessing Emerging Educational Technologies to Improve Social Awareness and Bridge Socio-Epistemic Gaps».
Dr. Afxentiou’s presentation focused on the current social implications of emerging educational technologies, addressing their impact on society, education, and the way we approach learning in an increasingly digital world. A key part of Dr. Afxentiou’s talk also touched on the European Commission's Horizon Europe Programme, highlighting the expectations and opportunities that the program presents for driving technological innovation in education. As the European Union focuses on both the digital and green transitions—referred to as the European Twin Transition—projects like InterGenic are at the forefront of ensuring that these transformations are inclusive, sustainable, and accessible to all generations.
